Privacy Policy — Parish Chapel

ParishChapel is designed with privacy first. We collect only the limited information necessary to provide app functionality, parish content, prayer requests, and notifications.

Mobile users are not required to create an account or provide their name, email address, or phone number to use ParishChapel. Your parish selections and app preferences are stored on your device, and prayer requests may be submitted without identifying yourself.

Liturgical Calendar

ParishChapel may display liturgical calendar information based on content provided by or referenced from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). ParishChapel has received permission to use the applicable liturgical calendar information. All rights in the original USCCB content remain with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

What We Collect

ParishChapel collects the minimum information required for the app to function:

• Your parish selections and app preferences, such as language and font size, which are stored locally on your device.
• A push notification token, if you grant notification permission, so your device can receive parish announcements and notifications. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
• Prayer request information that you voluntarily submit.
• For parish administrators only, an email address and password used to access the administrative portal.

What We Do NOT Collect

For ordinary mobile-app users, ParishChapel does not require or intentionally collect:

• Your full name
• Your email address
• Your phone number
• Your location or GPS data
• Mobile-user account or login credentials
• Browsing history for advertising or profiling purposes
• Payment or financial information

We do not use advertising networks, social media advertising SDKs, or third-party analytics SDKs for user profiling.

Prayer Requests

Prayer requests may be submitted without identifying yourself.

When you submit a prayer request, the prayer intention or request you provide is recorded. You may optionally provide your first name so that parish administrators can pray for you by name. Providing your first name is entirely voluntary.

We do not require your last name, phone number, email address, or account information when submitting a prayer request.

Parish Administrators

Parish administrators who access the admin portal provide an email address and password for authentication.

Passwords are protected using secure one-way password hashing, such as bcrypt, and are not stored as readable plain-text passwords.

Administrator information is used only for authentication and administration of ParishChapel and is not sold or shared for advertising purposes.

Third-Party Services

ParishChapel uses a limited number of service providers to operate the app.

• Cloudflare — used for API hosting, security, and content delivery. Cloudflare may process standard network and request metadata, such as IP addresses and request information, in accordance with its own privacy practices.
• Expo / Firebase Cloud Messaging / Apple Push Notification Service — used to deliver push notifications. These services process technical information required to deliver notifications, such as push notification tokens and notification content.

ParishChapel does not provide these services with your name, email address, or phone number for advertising purposes.

YouTube Videos

ParishChapel may include embedded YouTube videos or links to videos hosted on YouTube. These videos, including any music, recordings, channel content, or other media, remain the property of their respective owners. ParishChapel does not claim ownership of third-party YouTube content.

Embedded YouTube videos may be subject to YouTube/Google terms of service and privacy practices. Playback, recommendations, and cookies (if any) are controlled by YouTube.

Data Retention

ParishChapel retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide its services.

• App preferences stored locally remain on your device until you change them, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
• Push notification tokens may be retained while notifications remain enabled for your device.
• Prayer requests may be retained by the applicable parish for pastoral and administrative purposes.
• Parish administrator information is retained while the administrator account remains active or as otherwise required for legitimate administrative or legal purposes.

You may request deletion of information associated with you by contacting us.

Age Accessibility

ParishChapel is designed for parish communities and families and may be used by people of different ages.

The mobile app does not require users to create an account or provide a name, email address, phone number, or precise location to access ordinary parish content.

ParishChapel does not use children's information for targeted advertising or behavioral profiling.

Parents or legal guardians who believe that personal information relating to their child has been provided to ParishChapel may contact us to request review or deletion.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, applicable privacy laws may provide rights relating to your information, including the right to request access, correction, or deletion of information associated with you.

Because ParishChapel does not require mobile users to create an account, we may have limited ability to associate technical information with a particular individual.

If you believe we hold information attributable to you, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.

Applicable Law

ParishChapel is operated with the intention of complying with applicable privacy and data-protection requirements, including, where applicable:

• India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA)
• Applicable United States federal and state privacy requirements
• Applicable child-privacy requirements

The specific privacy requirements that apply may depend on the user's location and the type of information being processed.
